Have You????

Have you been in a store/restaurant/mall and heard some woman scream/yell at her child/children something like this? You are stupid/You are such a brat/You are so mean/Shut Up and on and on and on.....I cringe when I hear these conversations/rantings and wish I could take the children in my arms and shield them from this "mouth" abuse. I have a daily calendar and each day brings a word of wisdom.

I like the following words:
"Your child will conform to the image he thinks you hold of him. If you call him lazy and stupid, his behavior will prove that assessment to be correct. Control our impulsive reactions and give him a high image to shoot for." Dr. Dobson Answers Your Question, p. 232

1 John 4, vs 7 - Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God.

Are you a screamer? Do you children scream at you? Do you wonder why? How you talk to them will be the way they will talk to you. They hear what you say and will repeat. Love these children, they are grown and away from you much too quickly. Yes! I believe children should be corrected but it can be done in a soft spoken voice - everyone in the world does not have to hear you scream at your children. One time I watched as one of our sons corrected his child in the restaurant. The grandchild was beside me and had spoken in a rude way to his parent. The dad got up and got right down, eye to eye, nose to nose, to this child and straightened him out, spoken in such a soft voice that even I could not hear what was said. What I did hear was "Yes, sir, I understand. I'm sorry." Another son takes his children to the bedroom or bathroom to correct (spank) them. I've never heard him scream or yell at them in public or in front of other people. He may quietly correct them when necessary and the bedroom or bathroom is not handy, but it is not in a "mouth" abuse way; often down to eye level with them. If they have been trained correctly, at times all is necessary is a "LOOK" or simply to say their name. My boys always said I had a "steely eyed look" that told them they had better shape up.

I'm guessing because I went to the mall yesterday may be the reason for this blog. It really hurts me to see little children and at times older children being talked to worse than the family dog or cat.

Always remember that these babies are gifts to you from God. Treat them carefully and teach them the ways of the Lord. Correct them, but do so prayerfully. Did I correct my boys? YES! We would go to their room and I would ask them if they knew why they were going to get a spanking. If they stumbled around over the reason, I would then tell them exactly why. After the spanking, I would hold them and pray for them and ask God to guide me as a mother, because I knew if God couldn't help me - no one could. Trust Him to guide you and let Him speak to your heart about the way you should handle these precious jewels. Be very careful of the words that can spew out of your mouth (even the words directed at your spouse - be very careful.)

Again - the MALL........you can see and hear all kinds of "stuff"! OUCH!

thanks bacamama for the gentle reminders to love our children and speak to them the way the Lord would have us speak to them. They are in a world where they are screamed at and laughed at constantly, they don't need to hear if from the ones that are supposed to love them the most.
